Holidays

Holiday parties, gifts, candy canes, smiles and family! What a great combination. Our practice wants to wish you a Happy Holiday Season and remind you that during this fun and festive time of year, it is easy to get busy and forget about the simple things we do automatically any other time of year.  Brushing your teeth should not be one of those forgotten routines.  In fact it is better to brush and floss more often during this time of heavenly meals and delectable sweets. Below are a few dental tips to help you keep a bright smile during this holiday season:

Don’t leave home without it. Whenever traveling to a friend’s or family member’s home for a meal, don’t forget to pack a spare toothbrush, toothpaste, and roll of floss. Make sure to pack enough dental supplies should the meal extend into an overnight stay or even longer.

Brush often

Brush often – If you can brush and floss after every meal that would be great.  Bring your toothbrush and some floss with you everywhere you go.  (Or at least bring some sugarless gum).  When the food that you have just eaten sits on your teeth it becomes acidic and can cause all types of problems if left to sit there.  So, after having the wonderful meals followed by the delectable desserts take a few moments to give your smile the gift of health.

Don’t over-indulge in sweet cocktails and drinks. Not only can excessively sweet drinks cause weight gain, but they can also result in tooth decay. When drinking in a social setting, order club soda with lime. If choosing among alcoholic drinks, a dry red or white wine is preferable to a piña colada, mojito, or daiquiri.

Don’t put off dental work until after the holidays. It is tempting to put off unpleasant procedures such as root canals and fillings until after the holidays are over. However, doing so may make current dental issues worse. Likewise, it may lead to unnecessary toothaches during the time when one is supposed to be relaxing and having fun. Even if there are only a few days left until the big winter break, it is wise to take care of business first, so that there are no painful episodes later.

We want to wish you a safe and Happy Holiday Season!
